Canada's Sports Hall of Fame Launches Summer Camp Program
July 29, 2009
Canada's Sports Hall of Fame has launched an outreach program series for summer campers. The program involves telling stories about select sports heroes who have been inducted to Canada's Sports Hall of Fame and involves a firsthand look at some interesting artefacts dating back as early as 1936. Campers also participate in games and receive a memento from the Hall.
The program series is geared towards informing and captivating the minds of young
Canadians and engaging them in learning about Canada's rich sports history. The presentation covers the history of Canada's Sports Hall of Fame and stories of some Honoured Members, including Marilyn Bell, Maurice ‘Rocket' Richard of the Montreal Canadiens, and one of Canada's greatest sport heroes, Terry Fox.
Campers are also taught the importance of teamwork and ethics in sports through hands on
activities. This gets campers to understand the overall image of sport - not just what happens in the game, but what happens behind the scenes. The program gets campers to understand the importance of not just the skill involved in sport but everything else that allows campers to reach their ultimate potential. Campers are encouraged to ask questions and actively participate in the program.
The first program was presented on July 29th, 2009 at Canlan Hockey Camp in Toronto, Ontario with over 60 campers and camp instructors in attendance.
There are a maximum of 5 programs available, and the program runs until August 28th, 2009. For more information please contact the Hall at 416-260-6789 or email info@sportshall.ca.
